I was hooked after beginner lessons
Please describe to our Board of Directors your experience as a student in my lessons program so far.
After fumbling through a few rec play sessions elsewhere, Cedarbrae was recommended to me by a co-worker and I started with the beginner lessons and then beginner/novice rec play. Continuing with the lessons, whether with a small class size or larger group, have helped my play and confidence immensely.
If you have taken lessons elsewhere, how would you compare these experiences to your experiences at Cedarbrae.

Have you told any of your friends about our lessons program? If so, what did you tell them?
Yes, any co-worker or friends that are considering playing I have recommended starting with the beginner lessons which are a great way to understand the basics of game play and rules.
If you have had the opportunity to participate in a very small group lesson at Cedarbrae – such as one or two students – please describe your experience and what you perceive to be the value of going ahead with such lessons rather than canceling them due to low enrollment.
I enjoy learning and progressing with other players but benefit most from the smaller class sessions. I learn best by taking small steps and focusing on specifics of one skill which is why Coach Brent’s teaching style works for me. Coach will adjust the lesson to the number of students in the session.
If you have had a chance to learn or participate in SKINNY SINGLES, please describe your experience and what you perceive to be the value of this component of my lessons program.
Have only played skinny singles when odd number of players in red play, i.e. 6 or 10, but only for fun rather than competitive.
Please describe to the Board how, if at all, participating in my lessons program has impacted your decision to either purchase a new membership or renew a membership at Cedarbrae.
I was hooked after the initial beginner lessons and sign up for rec play whenever I can when space is available. I have continued with Cedarbrae lessons, even repeating lessons when need a refresher. For me, purchasing a membership, taking lessons, rec play and rated play go hand in hand, especially when with a great coach, rec center staff and players who have become friends.
Multiple Lessons
Please feel free to share my feedback about the lessons with the Board.
These were the first pickleball lessons I have taken. I did the backhand, top spin serve and letting balls go out lessons.
I have spoken about your class to other pickleballers and was impressed by what I learned in the lessons. You have a knack for breaking techniques down into smaller steps – and practicing each component – that way it’s not so overwhelming and made me feel more successful at learning a new skill.
The backhand lesson has 8 participants – I found it a good number of players and had a lot of practice with this in class.
Top spin serve was next – again, attended by 8 people and felt it was a good number of participants although I found this skill needs way more practice time (for me).
Finally, I attended the letting balls go out clinic – loved the smaller number of participants – there were 2 of us and 2 coaches. This was a tough concept for me to grasp but I found the small participant to Coach ratio really benefited me.
I found the timing of the lessons – 7:30 am – a good time for lessons and the 90 minute session was a perfect amount of time to learn a skill.
I would love to have more gym time available to practice these skills and put it all together.
I do find all these lessons invaluable and I take what I learned to the games that I play.
Again, I would appreciate more gym time to practice these new skills.
I found Brent to be a very patient coach, adaptable and accommodating. I also had Ayesha as a coach – she was also very patient and accommodating.
I have found these lessons have enhanced my pickleball play and made the sport even more enjoyable.
I look forward to more lessons and practice at Cedarbrae and am so glad I found this facility!!
