The Blood that Burns is told from the point of view of primarily female characters who are being hunted and persecuted by an ancient order of witch hunters. Their focus is on understanding what is happening, finding their friends, and keeping their found family safe and together.
The vibe in this story is one of senseless persecution. All of the characters have magic in one form or another, but they are not doing anything evil with it. The group that is pursuing them seems to be pursuing them on sheer principle; the women are witches so that means they must die.
I worked on this story as a critique partner and I am mentioned in the acknowledgements. Therefore it would be unethical for me to rate this novel on commercial review platforms like Goodreads, Fable, or StoryGraph.
